An invited guest to an Atlanta-area apartment complex was shot multiple times during an early morning carjacking. Despite evidence that illustrated a history of violent crimes at the property, management had inexplicably fired their courtesy safety officer not long before the near-fatal incident. Further evidence showed the community\u2019s access gate frequently didn\u2019t work, and combined with poor lighting, the community became an attractive target for potential criminals. We were able to demonstrate the manager\u2019s and owner\u2019s negligent security liability and negotiated a confidential $5.1 million settlement that will allow our client to begin building a new life. We also demonstrated that it is less expensive to address security concerns proactively, rather than pay millions in the wake of a foreseeable tragedy. It\u2019s part of our effort to help Make Atlanta Safe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
